Program Notes
After having very “interesting” experiences in the Windy City for the Band/ Orchestra convention, I felt that I should write a piece based off these events! My dear friend and mentor, Rob Grice, and I took a taxi from down Chicago to the McCormick Place West building to return to Midwest. It’s safe to say I’ve NEVER been so scared for my life as I was in that taxi. (My dad being a pilot and having flown ever since I was little, that speaks a lot). We arrived, a-little quicker than expected. This scene is depicted in the first movement. The second movement was inspired by the mood and feel of the city late at night, from the prospective of someone in their hotel. The awe and beauty was breathtaking. The third movement was inspired from the long ascent in the elevator in the Sears Tower. As you reach the 103rd floor, you lake in the beauty and glory that IS Chicago, with small reflections on the previous scenarios.
This piece was originally written as a trumpet piece, however can be played on trumpet or euphonium.
